Dive Meets
Northern Virginia Swimming League (NVSL) Dive “A” and Fairfax Area “B” developmental meets allow divers to gain competitive experience and improve their individual performance while supporting their team’s efforts.
“A” meets are on Tuesday nights and teams can enter up to 32 divers. Meets start at 6 pm. The warm-ups for the home meet begin at 4:00 pm and the away team begins warm-up at 5:00 pm.
The “B” meets are on Thursday nights. They are designed to give new and developing divers a chance to compete and improve their skills. These meets are not NVSL related and are not scored. Ribbons are awarded to every diver. We hope to hold a “B” meet this summer, the date is TBD.
The Head Coach will determine when a diver can safely perform the dives required (front fall-in, back fall-in and jump) to be eligible to compete. The “A” meets are governed by NVSL dive rules. The top three scores in each age group count toward the final meet points. Meet results determine standing in our division. Sideburn Run is in Division 6 with Hamlet, Sleepy Hallow, Rutherford, Truro and Arlington Forrest.

Volunteers Required at Meets
Dive meets require trained volunteers for both home and away meets. Meet officials receive free certification training at NVSL Officials Clinics held each year. Please consider attending if you’re interested in any official duties (see Team Contacts). We ask that everyone make an effort to attend a NVSL judges clinic. Judging is easier than it seems. The league provides you with criteria to score the dive and you are one of 5 judges. The highest and lowest score is thrown out, so no worries! It is important to the team that parents get training to understand the judging process and assist at meets. Besides, it is the best seat in the house to watch a meet.
If you are interested in becoming a referee you must have been a judge for 1 season. Please contact the team reps if you are interested in this training.
A commitment from each family to volunteer at least eight hours during the season is essential to make things run smoothly for the team. Volunteers for all home meets help to: set up (arrive at the pool by 4 pm), run the snack bar during the meet, work as a judge or table worker, and reset the pool deck immediately after the meet. For away meets we need to provide 3 judges and 2 table workers, for home meets we need 2 judges and 3 table workers. Other non-meet opportunities to help the team include: serving Monday morning breakfasts, assisting with team spirit, and organizing the end of season banquet. The Team Reps can always use some extra help!
