As we wrap up summer swim season, Elaine and I want to continue the process of populating our Shark Leadership Council (SLC) that we stood up this Spring.

This team has been essential to taking a ton of workload from the shoulders of the team reps. It’s also allowed our Coordinators to bring a lot of new ideas to the administration of the team. The intent is for the SLC to meet occasionally throughout the Fall/Winter to plan for Spring/Summer 2025. Don’t be surprised if we reach out directly to some of you who have done such a wonderful job this summer!

Once ID’d as a Coordinator, you own your area of responsibility, and we encourage innovation! Also, you’re free to build out your team as you see fit. Theresa Bardolf as Shark Shack Coordinator is a great example. She has recruited a team of regulars that support the Shark Shack operations throughout the year. She then supplements meets with additional volunteers, as needed. Ideally, as a Coordinator, you’re thinking about training a handful of folks who can take your spot in your absence or can assume the Coordinator role when you move on. We should be training our replacements, because none of us will do these jobs forever.

As of today, below is our SLC. Some jobs are still unfilled. Let us know if you’re interested! If you want to team up with someone and co-coordinate, that’s great too!

As a reminder, you’ll start the swim season with the household goal for volunteer points (this year was 10).

Team Reps (swim) – Elaine Simonsen, Ben Spencer & Kelly Douglas – We welcome Kelly as the 3rd Swim Rep!

Officials Coordinator – Ken Simonsen – Ken is in need of officials, especially stroke-and-turn.

Data Coordinator – Nicki Miller

Treasurer – Loan Nguyen

Shark Shack Coordinator – Theresa Bardolf

Merchandise Coordinators – Laci Tang and Michelle Cummings

Volunteer Coordinators – Responsible for ensuring we have volunteers for all meets. Most of these responsibilities can be executed remotely via SwimTopia and email.

Communications Coordinators – Clara Merante and Melissa Talbot (the Swim Reps got started way late on this line of effort and ran out of time to get it off the ground in 2024—high hopes for 2025!)

Social Coordinators – Responsible for recommending, planning, and executing social events (i.e. pep rallies, senior day, etc.). Responsibility for Shark Buddies (Patricia Daniel) and all photography could be a subset or remain standalone—we’re open to suggestions.

Sponsorship Coordinator – Responsible for working to secure swim and dive sponsorships that are crucial to supplementing funding for the team. Robust fundraising allows us to avoid/minimize the growth of registration fees.

Infrastructure Coordinator – Responsible for all set-up and tear-down activities in support of home & away meets. Responsible for all materiel that supports swim team (tents, sound, timing boards, Colorado timer, etc.)
